Desert S.S.I.A.
“Desert Self Seeking Interested Artist, Desert Suburbia Sisters in Action…”
15 1/2″ x 12 1/2,” acrylic and oil on paper, framed, 2008. $47.00
This is what happens when two gals are left to the elements in desert suburbia. A scavenged desert landscape becomes the landing spot for a copper robot.
I went to the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum after their lunch concert with “The Travelers” this afternoon. The most memorable piece for me was a paper and wire mixed media sculpture by C.J. Shane from Tucson. It was an intricate woven open book, a computer wired looking book of a brain. Woven strips of cut paper from a repetitive list of passive explatives like “whatever,” and “oh well,” were tediously joined by strings or wires. The wires reminded me of the synaptic clefts that we fuse when we use the debilitating language of apathy. This work’s title is “The Postmodernist Critique Artist Book.”
